Best Business Coaches in RVA

Best Business Coaches in RVA

At A Better Place, we have the honor to speak to over 400 individuals a year who are considering investing in individual business coaching. We end up working with less than 20 of these individuals total and I work with only 4 individuals a year. I am not the right fit for all 400 and our DEFY Toolbox serves some individuals but it is not for everyone either.

Remember that we are an integrity-based, values focused coaching and consulting firm so when we are looking at…

Vision 3 Years From Now

Vision for ABP in three years

What do I see? Hear?

I see beautiful views out of windows and a lot of people smiling and happy. I see bright photos on hardcover books and lots of light furniture on new floors. I see a warm office with Guinness and one assistant and comfy furniture. A warm big cup of coffee and fresh air and the beach. I hear laughter, keyboard tapping, flights being announced, kids talking to me and my mom. I hear client testimonials and gratitude. I hear a recent interview that I…

12 Days of Business

As we reach the end of each year, I always like to share 12 pieces of business wisdom that I feel sum up the year overall. I enjoy writing this post every year, but I think is the best year yet!

If you feel inspired as you read, comment below, and share some of your own business wisdom. Who knows, maybe I will include it in the 2020 edition of this post…

Happy holidays, hope you enjoy and don’t forget to sing along!

On the first day of business, Dolly Parton reminded me…

On the second day of busin…

Is it better to have an online coach or in person?

When my most recent credit card statement came, I realized it was the third month in a row I’d been paying for an online program and community that I STILL had not used. I was throwing my money after something I really wanted - growth and solutions - but I hadn’t mustered the self-discipline to actually engage and take action.

Have you ever signed up for an online course or community with the best intentions, only to realize months later that you have yet to even log in?

Or hired a one-on-one coa…

It Doesn't Hurt to Ask.

After careful strategizing and planning, my business partner (for Coaches HQ) and I ran into a brick wall. For six weeks we tossed around ideas, interviewed candidates, and tried to stay positive while we wracked our brains to find a way forward.

While we tried to work through the roadblock, I also happened to have a call with a connection of mine currently volunteering for Pawssible. During our conversation, I mentioned that one of our other volunteers, Sam, was donating his digital marketing s…

Cancer Sucks/I am making a plan for Cancer

The most important woman in my life was recently diagnosed with cancer. Tomorrow she goes in for surgery.

But to be honest, I feel like I am walking around in a complete fog. I saw two clients today and was, fortunately, able to get into the flow during our time together, ignoring my underlying feelings of impending doom. But those two client sessions were the only times all day that I managed to rise above the heaviness.

I won’t share this woman’s name here out of respect for her. But I will sp…

Five Fantastic Lessons I Learned from Business Failure.

Very recently, a business of mine failed, just 1 month after the grand opening. I wish I could tell you this was a first for me, but it wasn’t my first business failure. And I can almost promise you it will not be my last. Though there were business partners involved in this particular situation, I want to make it clear: I place no blame. Rather, I seek to take full responsibility for my own role and share what I learned, celebrating my lessons and growth.

1.Core values must always come first.

Why I Love Coworking

I have three offices. Two of them are located inside coworking spaces. In order to share what I love about coworking, let’s take an imaginary journey through a typical day looks at one of my offices.

9:00 am (ish) I roll into the office around nine-ish. Or maybe a little after. Because most of my coworking co-workers own their own businesses like I do, arriving any earlier tends to warrant heckling. Same goes with staying past noon on a sunny Friday (or any sunny day, for that matter).

9:10 am I…

Last week, I chopped off my hair.

I shared with the stylist that I wanted to feel lighter and change things up. When I turned around, nine inches were gone, and there were tons of layers. I felt dramatically lighter and energized by my new look.

Later that afternoon, when I hopped on Facebook Live to check in with ABP Difference Makers group, I was surprised by the amount of positive feedback I received. But every single day since, people have continued to approach me to tell me how much they love my style. Then they inevitably c…

Business Lent

Did you grow up Catholic? In case you did not, allow me to give you a quick explanation of the Christian Lenten practice. (This is not the religious definition, so forgive me, Father Murphy.) Lent is a 40-day period that begins Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter. This year, it started on March 6th. Lent is intended as a time of reflection and preparation for Easter; however, it’s most well-known as a time where you give something up or make a sacrifice in your own life in some way. Whether you cho…
