Growing a Business By Burning It Down

Happy 2018!  In this season of new beginnings and resolutions, the key to progress, achieving goals, and success is not doing MORE, but CHANGING what you are doing.

Why You Should NEVER Discount

I was speaking with an extremely successful business woman about Black Friday and asked if she was running a special for her retail stores. Her response was brilliant.
“I sell quality items for a fair price. In order to provide a discount, I would have to jack my prices up just to slash them. That makes no sense, but that is what most people do. Overprice everything so they can say they are giving you a discount or having a sale.”

Why are core values so important?

It seemed like the right timing but I knew that I did not want to live in house alone with our young daughter until he came home so I decided that we would buy a house large enough for my parents to move in with us and when he returned we would purchase another house for just our small family.
Fast forward to 2017 and we are still smushed under one roof only now there are 2 more do…

Sales is a Dirty Word

Why did they stop putting “salesperson” on a business card?

When I went from a Director of a medium-sized company to a Director of Business Development for a much larger company, I thought I was being given the responsibility of being the visionary for the future of the company. I did not realize that “business development” was really just a fancy way to say that I was their salesperson.

Had I read closely, I would have seen that my job description was to increase numbers, sales, and clients, all …
